For all of my winery and vineyard lovers, fall is the best time to hit the highway and enjoy Virginia’s scenic views! You have a few days left to enjoy VA wine during Wine Month in October or enjoy the fall foliage next to a fire pit or fireplace. I have compiled a list of places that you must visit in Northern Virginia this Fall.
Cana Vineyards, located in Middleburg, VA, has a fantastic fireplace in their Sunset Pavilion – a modern rustic timber frame pavilion that is both an indoor and outdoor space. They offer sides to close in the cooler weather and a heating system. They have several fire pits for guests and often offer smores kits. We also have hot mulled wine throughout the fall and winter.
Walsh, located in Purcellville, VA, offers firepits and blankets during the fall and winter. They are one of the few wineries in NOVA with large indoor and outdoor fireplaces. They are also offering flight nights on Fridays, with rotating themes each week (and they’re open late on Fridays until 8 pm. They will also continue to host DRINKWELL, their virtual tasting series, for those that are still staying cozy at home.
When visiting Stone Tower, I always feel like I’m at home relaxing in my living room (except it’s nowhere as big). Their tasting room has large cozy couches, chairs, coffee tables, rugs, and indoor and outdoor fireplaces. They also offer stunning views of Hogback Mountain. To maximize your visit to Stone Tower, I highly suggest you book their Vineyard Hike experience and then make a reservation to enjoy more wine and food.
If you enjoy a winery with a warm, log-cabin feel, I highly suggest Hidden Brook. It is one of Loudoun County’s oldest wineries, and it’s quite the hidden treasure. While they don’t have any outdoor firepits, its location in the woods makes it a sight to see. You can enjoy a glass of mulled wine (made in house) on their large porch or relax in the tasting room by the large fireplace.
Creeks Edge offers weekly bonfires (weather pending) starting Halloween through November. Feel free to bring your lawn chairs. If bonfires aren’t your thing, they also have a large indoor fireplace and multiple firepits on their large wraparound deck. They also serve mulled wine (which I love – BTW). To enhance your experience, they offer Acoustic Sundays every other Sunday.
If I were to create a list of the friendliest wineries to visit – Fabbioli would easily rank as one of the top wineries for excellent customer service in Loudoun County (Walsh Family Wines, Lost Creek, and Hillsborough are added to this list as well). Anyhoo, Fabbioli offers lots of outdoor seating, some of which include colossal fire pits – perfect for a group. They have top-notch red wines – especially the Cab Franc – even for those with the most discerning palate. They offer great food pairings as well. Please check out their menu before your visit as it is continuously evolving.
Lost Creek is a family-owned boutique winery located in Leesburg, VA. They have a large indoor fireplace, which is as beautiful as it is relaxing. They have a tremendous farm-to-table menu, and everything on the menu is superb! Be sure to check out their Sunday Brunch, including pork benedict, peaches and cream crepes, shrimp and grits (my favorite), and the farmstead French toast. You may also add on a wine pairing with brunch to enhance your experience. They have lots of outdoor seating as well.
Potomac Point is ready for Autumn (and Winter) with crackling outdoor fire pit tables and indoor fireplaces. They have multiple outdoor firepit locations on their patio and in the courtyard for parties of 2-8 people. They also offer two indoor fireplaces in their D’Vine Lounge and the ballroom.
Keep in mind when booking your reservation that all of Potomac Points fireside tables incur a $45/adult food & beverage minimum spend, which can also count towards wine to-go. Reservations open two weeks in advance, so book as soon as you can.
If you’re just looking for recommendations to enjoy the autumn foliage I highly suggest – Bluemont, Hillsborough, Breaux, Blue Valley, Delaplane Cellars, Fox Meadow, and Linden Vineyards.
