I turned the big 40 in February and desperately needed to getaway. I wanted to travel to a different location from where I usually travel (California, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina). I decided to travel to Texas for a few reasons:
- Typically it has warmer weather in the winter months.
- Texas Hill Wine Country in Fredericksburg is quickly becoming one of the must-visit wine regions in the US.
- I wanted to visit La Cantera Resort and Spa, one of the best spa resorts in the US – on my actual birthday
If you’re planning a trip to San Antonio or Fredericksburg, I will provide you with the places I visited and provided recommendations on places you must-visit. Though the weather was not as I expected (I left right before the big snowstorm), I enjoyed the wineries I visited, and I would highly recommend you see them as well. Overall, it was a great birthday getaway, and I’m planning to return.
Where I stayed
I stayed at The St. Anthony, a Luxury Collection Hotel in downtown San Antonio. It was FABULOUS! The location is excellent because it is close to lots of restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. The hotel itself is stunning – everything is Instagram-worthy. I encourage you to take lots of photos in the lobby and at the pool on the roof. They have multiple restaurants in the hotel. Unfortunately, I could only dine at Rebelle – which was delicious, but the others looked nice. The guest rooms are really spacious and beautifully decorated and smell incredible. The hotel partnered with luxury fragrance retailer Byredo on creating a signature scent, and it is impressive.
Where I ate
It’s no secret that Texas has some of the best food in the country. Every single restaurant that I went to was fantastic. I provided a list of restaurants and cocktail bars that I dined at below.
- Drinks at Paramour Bar at the Phipps (pictured above) + Dinner at Bourbon Street Seafood
- Brunch at Nola Brunch and Beignets
- Dinner at Rebelle Restaurant in the St. Anthony Hotel
- Dinner at Primero Cantina at La Cantera Resort and Spa
- Breakfast at American Eatery at Hotel Emma
- Dinner at Cured
Where I sipped (Texas Hill Wine Country)
Given the rain and freezing temperatures during my visit to Texas, unfortunately, many of the wineries were closed. However, I did get to visit a few on my list. I have provided them below. I enjoyed my visit to each winery – especially Heath Sparkling Winery, as I had never seen a sparkling winery before. In the future, I hope to visit Signor, The Vineyard at Florence, Southhold Farm + Cellar, Barons Creek, and Augusta Vin.
My favorite experience
The highlight of my trip was visiting the Spa Resort at La Cantera. It was stunning, and the service was excellent. If you purchase one treatment, you have access to the Spa the entire day. There are multiple saunas and steam rooms, pools (heated in the winter), and beauty treatments. It’s perfect for a wellness getaway. I am planning to go back to San Antonio – to visit this Spa. It is dreamy.
