An easy hour drive from Washington DC + Northern Virginia, Bluemont Vineyard offers a total wine destination experience complete with a farm, cidery, brewery, and multiple cottages in the picturesque Loudoun Valley.
There are many vineyards in Loudoun County, nearly 50, but not many check all the boxes on visitors’ to-do lists. While exploring Bluemont properties, you’ll discover one-of-a-kind experiences and award-winning wines in multiple varietals. Whether you want an elevated wine tasting experience, savor farm-to-table cuisine, pick fruit at the local farm, enjoy live music and flights of cider and beer, or relax in one of their cottages, Bluemont offers something special for everyone.
Vista Club Member of the Day
In early August, Bluemont hosted my partner and me for a late-summer stay. I welcomed the opportunity as I was preparing for a move, and I desperately needed to get away. I have visited Bluemont on multiple occasions, but this was the first time I visited all of their properties. It was a great time.
I had the pleasure of visiting Bluemont as a Vista Club Wine member for the day, and it was quite the experience. I could sip four wines on the Vista Club Deck (exclusive outdoor space for members), including Piquette Blanc, Albariño, Merlé Rosé, and Merlot. I also indulged in their delicious farm-to-table fare, including the Artisan Cheese Plate, Peach Mozzarella Caprese, and the Chicken and Bacon Flatbread. Everything that we had was AMAZING!
After we ate, we went out on a guided tour of the property. And wow! I did not realize that the vineyard spans across 45 acres, at 951 feet above sea level. I had no idea there was so much land (and so many grapes).
Beer Sippin at Dirt Farm Brewing
Next on the itinerary was a visit to Dirt Farm Brewing next door to Bluemont Vineyard (and a few steps from our cottage). I’m not much of a beer drinker – I’ve been trying; I can’t seem to find one that agrees with my palette. However, I tried the Som’ Peach Ale, and I liked that. My partner enjoyed all of the beer that he tried. We also had the oysters and shrimp – yummy. We sat outdoors after the sun went down a bit (it was so hot) and enjoyed views of the sunset above the Loudoun Valley.
Romantic Stay at Brewers Cottage
I have two words that describe Brewers Cottage “Relaxing and Romantic.” This home is the perfect location for relaxation after sipping wine and beer all day. In an earlier blog post, I shared with all of you that I grew up a Girl Scout, so I appreciate a private respite in nature – away from everything. This cottage was just that.
Brewers Cottage is a private, two-bedroom cottage located five minutes from Bluemont and a few steps from Dirt Farm Brewing. Like Bluemont and Dirt Farm Brewing, it has incredible views, a great patio, and the décor inside is wine country chic – even the bedding is luxurious. It’s perfect for any getaway, whether it’s romantic, a ladies’ weekend, couples night, or even a mini-vacay with the family.
I love a great cidery, and Henway is now one of my new favorite getaways. Located directly across the street from Bluemont Winery at the base of the Blue Rudge Mountains. There is a lovely patio and picnic tables, a large fire pit, a small pond, and lots of unique ciders to taste. The tasting room is also large and modern.
One of the main things that I love about Henway Cider is that you can create your own cider flight. I tried four different ciders in my flight, and they were all great. I paired my ciders with nachos, and pizza and I enjoyed them. I am by no means a pairing expert – but it was all delicious to me.
The last stop on my itinerary was my visit to Great Country Farms, and it was quite the treat. Not only did I get to pick peaches and run through the sunflowers (while dodging lots of bees – eek), but we were also able to check out all of the farm animals along the way. It was so cool! I did not expect to see animals there.
I cannot wait to return to Bluemont again, and next time I will make an entire weekend out of it. I hope to stay at some of the other cottages. I have my eye on the Farmhouse for my next visit. I think it will be perfect for a getaway with my girls.
