Did you know that in the month of March, US wineries lost $40.4 million dollars? Yikes!
This past weekend, I drove to some wineries in Loudoun County, to pick up some wine, but mostly to get away as I am getting stir-crazy. I was so happy to see how some of the wineries were very busy and others, well, you can tell how badly they are affected by this pandemic.
I read some news articles yesterday that discussed how COVID-19 is affecting the US wine industry. I didn’t realize that in March alone, US wineries lost $40.4 million dollars. Eek! And that is for March only. As time goes on, this will get worse. Therefore, it’s so important to continue to shop locally. Here are some tips on how you can support our local wineries:
- Buy online and have it delivered – some wineries will deliver it to you personally if you live within a certain radius.
- Direct-to-Consumer – Visit the winery and pick it up in person. Most wineries offer this service contact-free.
- Purchase gift cards – Purchase gift cards for friends, family, or even yourself!
- Buy a wine club membership – this is a great time to buy a membership, as not only will you get discounted wine, you will have exclusive access to virtual events
- Donate – Several wineries and employee relief refund, where you can help with the employees who have been either furloughed or laid off.
